  The any type of computer program that delivers low latency near to the requests. Karim Arabi ,in an IEEE DAC 2014 Keynote and subsequently in an invited talk at MIT's MTL Seminar in 2015.

     It is a distributed  computing model in which computing takes place near the physical location where data is being collected and analyzed, rather than on a centralized server on in the cloud. This  new infrastructure involves sensors to collect data and  edge server to securely process data in real-time on site, while also connecting other devices, like laptops and smartphone , to the network.

WHY IS EDGE COMPUTING IS IMPORTANT ?

   Edge computing is important because it creates new and improved   ways for industrial and enterprise-level businesses to maximize operational efficiency improve performance and safety , automate all core business processes ,and ensure "always on " availability. It is a leading method to achieve the digital the transformation of how you do business.

Edge computing trends to watch in 2022 and the future .

  • Spending explodes along with data generation.
          One research report, published in October 2021 by marketsandmarkets , predicted that the edge computing market will grow from the already sizeable amount of $36.5 Billion in 2021,with a compound annual growth rate of 19% during those five years .   


 
 



  • A growing list of vendors will provide edge computing production and service  
         Enterprise IT leaders looking to invest in their edge deployments will see a growing list of vendors offering products and service in this space . The market includes established hardware markets , including Dell EMC,HPE , and IBM , along with internet tech  giants such as AWS and GOOGLE selling distributed cloud edge. 

  • The edge environment expands .      
          The isn't one specific place . There is no set definition on how close to the endpoints edge computing needs to be still be considered edge. The edge  could be a ruggedized gateways placed in closed physical  proximity to remote sensors or it could be a local data center.
